THE FOOD PACKING EVENT
God very graciously provided the volunteers needed to pack 285,120 meals to send to Haiti. If you were one of those volunteers, THANK YOU! You made a difference in the lives of real people. Thank you for giving of yourself. Thank you for making a difference.
Packing the food was a lot of work but it was fun. We poured the proper amounts of rice, dried vegetables, soy protein, and vitamins into plastic bags and boxed them up. We achieved our goal of packing a whole container of food for Haiti. That is 285,120 meals. In one day! We each worked side by side with hundreds of other volunteers from the greater community who came to the Woodridge Community Church building in New Berlin, Wisconsin to help out.
With the help of ImpactLives, we set up an assembly system that was very efficient. The church building's Sanctuary and Commons were set up with 25 packing stations. Over 1000 volunteers worked in 2 hour shifts. There were 4 shifts for a total of 8 hours.
One box of food contains 216 meals & will feed a family of 6 for an entire month, all for only $44 when packing at $0.20 per meal! That $0.20 covers the cost of raw materials, transportation, and shipping the meals! The total cost for the whole container is $57,024.
1 Bag = 6 Meals
1 Box = 36 Bags (216 Meals)
1 Pallet = 55 Boxes (11,880 Meals)
1 Container = 24 Pallets (285,120 Meals)
We worked with an organization called ImpactLives to complete this task. ImpactLives is a non-profit organization that partners with other organizations to provide impoverished individuals and families with food, water, shelter, essential medical care, education, leadership training and mentorship programs. They have been working in Haiti and the Dominican Republic for the last 8 years. Recently they have shipped over 1 million meals to various organizations in Haiti to assist feeding centers, hospitals and schools. Learn more at impactlives.org.
